SHAH ALAM: Even though he was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, it did not dampen the spirits of Dr. Anis Mardiana Abdullah to hold a Doctoral Degree (PhD) at the 95th Convocation of Mara University of Technology (UiTM) yesterday.
Anis Mardiana, 45, also received the Malaysian Technology Development Corp. Innovation Book Award. (MTDC) through the results of his studies in transportation and logistics.
According to the mother of one child, she does not use a wheelchair because she refuses to trouble others.
“I was just diagnosed with colon cancer two weeks ago and am still in a state of shock not to mention receiving a special award from UiTM.
“During my PhD, I didn’t experience any severe symptoms except my hands were shaking and I thought it might be due to stress,” he said when met after the Convocation Ceremony at the UiTM Shah Alam Chancellor’s Great Hall, here.
The first session of the convocation was completed by UiTM Pro Chancellor, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin by involving a total of 116 Doctoral degree graduates.
Anis Mardiana explained, he will undergo surgery at Tuanku Muhriz Chancellor Hospital next week.
“According to the doctor, my illness has been going on for a long time but I didn’t feel anything before,” he said.
He added that he used his experience as an officer at the Ministry of Finance in carrying out studies related to logistics and transport, especially in the halal field.
“The support of my husband and children helped me a lot to complete my studies in almost four years,” he said. – MESSENGER
