JAKARTA: Police are investigating the case of two men who were burned alive while walking on the Jelambar Aladin Bridge in Penjaringan, North Jakarta yesterday.
Report CompassPenjaringan police chief, M Probandono Bobby Danuardi said, the two victims were doused with petrol and burned alive by an unknown individual.
He said, the matter was informed by a witness known by the initials I when giving evidence to the police.
According to Probandono, at the time of the incident, the two men were walking through the bridge.
“However, suddenly, an individual who came from the opposite direction threw a bottle filled with petrol and set the man on fire,” he said.
Probandono explained that the 39-year-old victim, known as S, managed to save himself by jumping into the river after his body caught fire.
“Another victim known as D, aged 38, failed to do the same, the man died from burns.
“D is still receiving treatment at Hospital Duta Indah after the incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, Probandono said that his party could not reveal the exact cause of S’s death because they were still waiting for the results of the autopsy report.
He explained that the investigation of the case is still ongoing to identify the true motive of the incident.
