PHNOM PENH: At least 19 died in a fire incident at a casino hotel in Cambodia bordering Thailand.
The Cambodian police informed that the fire broke out at around 11.30pm local time, last Wednesday, at the Grand Diamond City Hotel in Poipet.
Based on the police report seen by AFP, a total of 30 other victims were injured and 400 individuals were believed to be working at the casino during the incident.
Video footage circulating online shows the fire in the hotel building with several video clips showing people trying to jump from the building.
Local media reported that foreign nationals were also inside the casino during the fire.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand is also trying to coordinate tasks with local authorities.
The injured victim was sent to a hospital in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand.
“Firefighters are trying to put out the fire, including sending a fire brigade from Thailand,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yayasan Ruamkatanyu volunteers from Thailand informed that the fire started on the first floor before spreading rapidly along the carpet and to the top of the building.-AFP
