16 injured, express bus crashes into trailer

JASIN: A total of 27 passengers of an express bus faced an anxious moment when the vehicle they were riding crashed into the back of a trailer carrying recycled goods in an accident at Kilometer 179.2 of the North-South Highway (PLUS) heading north near Jasin here, early this morning.

Operations Commander from the Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Jasin Bestari, Senior Fire Officer II Azman Md. Dawam informed that the accident is believed to have happened at about 3.50 am and caused 16 passengers of the bus to suffer injuries.

He said, however, the incident, which also involved several Singaporeans, did not cause loss of life and all the victims had been given initial treatment by medical officers at the crash site.

“An emergency call was received by the fire department at 3.57 this morning, when the team arrived at the scene, there was an accident involving an express bus hitting the back of a trailer truck carrying recyclables.

“There were 27 passengers on the bus and 16 of them were injured. Some of the victims involved are Singaporeans.

“The victim was given initial treatment by three ambulances from the Ministry of Health (KKM), one ambulance from BBP Jasin Bestari’s Emergency Services Unit (EMRS) and two ambulances from the Civil Defense Force (APM),” he told reporters here today.

Azman added that the road accident rescue operation ended at 5.20am involving 17 firefighters assisted by BBP Tangkak, Johor along with other agencies such as the Ministry of Health, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and PLUS. – MESSENGER
